Being swedish and a Forest fan can make life lonely because
there aren't many of us. And because of this it was great to hear
that Forest bought a swedish player to the club.
I think I'd better let you know who I am. My name is Christer and
I am 29 years old, living in Stockholm. I've been a Forest fan since
1977.
I'd like to ask you a couple of questions which will be presented on
my Nottingham Forest Page on the Internet. If you don't want to
answer a particular
question, then don't ! Here goes:
Q) How does it feel to have played in
Sweden so many years and suddenly find
yourself playing
in England and Nottingham Forest?
A: I am just grateful for the chance,
I thought at the age of 30 that I had missed
my chance. I knew
Forest had been looking at me the previous year with both
Dave Bassett and Ian
Storey- Moore coming to see me.
Q) Did you get a "warm" and friendly welcome
by the new captain Steve Chettle and
your new team-mates
when you arrived at the club?
A: Yes It was a very friendly welcome, much more than I expected
Q) Have any of the players been especially helpful to get you settled in?
A: Everyone was helpful, unfortunatly being
injured with a ruptured spleen just before
Christmas meant that
I had to stay in the hotel over Christmas as I couldn’t
fly home.
Q) I have heard about Woany's practical jokes.
Have they shaved your head or
anything yet?
A: No!
Q) Forest haven't done so well this season.
The defenders have perhaps been most
critisized during
the season. How do you think you can stabilize the defence?
A: By working hard in training and getting to know the players
Q) Bassett played with a three-man defence
most of the games. Is that really the
right tactics when
we've conceded so many goals?
A: Obviously not, but that was what Harry wanted
Q) "Big Ron" arrived at the club and bought
Carlton Palmer straight away! How do
you think Atkinson
will do at Forest? Can he prevent Forest from being relegated?
A: At the first meeting he called us all together
and told us what he expected from
us and what he would
give us. We all know it will be a hard job
Q) It might be positive to hear that 45 percent
of the fans in a "survey" at my Forest Page
believes you can make
it from relegation. Atkinsons arrival has raised the optimism
it seems. How did
you and the others react when Bassett was replaced by Atkinson?
A: It is always sad when anyone gets the sack
and especially for me as he had brought
me to the club.
Q) Who, do you think, in the team has performed best on the pitch so far?
A: In the games I have seen and played in Dave Beasant, Chets and Johno
Q) What do you think about the town, the fans and the City Ground?
A: I love it here and I should be moving into
a new flat in town soon, which will be great after
living in an hotel
for the last few months which is really boring. What my girlfriend and
I have
found so differant
is the friendlyness of everyone to us.
Q) You've played two games so far. I've only
heard positive comments about your performance
from the other fans.
Now you are injured. When will you be ready for another game?
A: Hopefully I should be playing in the reserves next week.
Q) One last question Jesper. We are eager
to see your first goal. When do you think you
will score…?
A: As I didn’t score many goals in Sweden each season all I can say is ”Hopefully soon!!!”
Thank you for answering my questions. I really hope
you will like it at Forest. Good luck to you
and the rest of the team! And remember, It's not
over til' it's over! Never give up!
Christer "Nordic Chris" Lindström,
Stockholm, January 26, 1999.
