TIDE HISTORY
In 1992 Andreas Tuveson (Andy) and Martin Wirdby started to experiment with music in
Martins basement.
Andy sang and Martin played the guitar. Except for the guitar and the voice, a drum-machine
was also used.
Together they made some songs, with lyrics and all, but the songs were never heard outside
their homes.
After a while they got bored playing alone without a real setting of instruments. They began
talking about starting up a real band. The timing couldn’t have been worse because Andy was
just about to do his military service.
For a few weeks they didn’t see eachother at all, but after a while they started missing their
music and decided to continue making songs on the weekends when Andy came home.
Months went by and Andys military service was over. Just two days after Andy came home
he and Martin called some old friends to see if they were interested in playing music with
them.
They called Björn Edling, a former trash-metal drummer living in Hagaström, Gävle and
Markus
Odby, a guitarplayer, playing in the same band as Björn also living in Hagaström.
Martin and Andy more or less forced Markus and Björn to listen to their demo and asked
them if they liked it. They did…
The band was now building up but there was something missing. They called Johan
Samuelsson a friend of Andys and asked him if he also wanted to join the group playing the
keyboard. Johan had been making music for quite a while in his room, but never in a full band
before. He thought the offer was very tempting and couldn’t say no.
The band got a rehearsalroom at Musikhuset, Gävle and on their first attempt to do something
together they ended up making a song called "End this".
But this was just the beginning. A few weeks later they had come up with a name that fit their
music, TIDE.
They played a lot more now and made great progress. One month after their first rehearsal it
was time for TIDES first gig. That took place on December 13 1994 at "Luciarocken".
TIDE was now a public band and it was time to record their first demo. To make the chorus
more powerful they wanted a girl to sing together with Andy, but neither one of them knew a
girl who could sing. The night before they were recording in the studio, Andy and Johan was
out on a club. Just before closingtime they met a girl who they both thought looked nice.
Mostly for fun they went up to her and asked if she could sing, and she answered yes!!!
The next day she came to the studio to prove it, and she hadn’t been lying to them. Eva
Hygges voice fit perfectly next to Andys and a new member was welcomed to TIDE.
TIDES first demo was not a big success but the local press pretty much liked it.
Years went bye and TIDE became one of Gävles best known bands. They had a lot of gigs
and recorded several demotapes which were sold in recordstores in Gävle. They used the
money they earned to pay the studiobills.
In 1996 Martin Wirdby began studying in Stockholm and therefor left the band. It was a hard
time for TIDE. Martin was, except for a great friend, an excellent bassplayer and Andys co
songwriter.
Bassplayers are hard to find but TIDE were lucky. Markus Odbys friend Johan Lantz joined
the band and began playing the bass. Although he almost never had been playing the bass,
TIDE knew immediately that he was the right man for the job. In five weeks he had to learn
all the songs for a gig at Skänken, Gävle. He did it perfectly and has now developed to a very
good bassplayer with ideas that matches exactly with those of the other bandmembers.
TIDE has now existed for nearly four years and has recorded over 50 songs. In Gävle they are
well known and they have got a faithful audience at every gig. The last few months
recordlabels has also shown their interest, but TIDE are yet an unsigned band waiting for the
perfect offer.
