Hobby 3: Broadband
I have been working in this area for some time, including a few years
in standardization on different fora. Now I am trying to put a part of my
knowledge in this area so that others can get a good idea of what the technologies
I have been directly involved with are all about.
- AAL2
: A brief introduction to this ATM adaptation layer specially suited
for applications that generate small packets (from one to up to a couple of
hundred octets). A key technology for 3G - UMTS Radio Access Networks.
- Q.AAL2
: An introduction to the AAL2 signalling protocol. It covers capability
set 1 (ITU-T recommendation Q.2630.1) and capability set 2 (ITU-T recommendation
Q.2630.2). This protocol enables AAL2 switching (i.e. switching at the AAL2
level).
- BICC (Bearer Independent Call Control): this signalling protocol
enables the provision of ISDN services over ATM (AAL1 and AAL2) and IP networks.
ITU-T has already released two capability sets of this protocol and is now
specifying the third one. All of them are commented in this introduction.
I am not directly working in this area any longer. But I am still open
to suggestions and comments. If you have any drop me a few lines to
