Stefan Wistrand encountered free jazz through the duo he had in the late 70's with drummer Peter Olsen. In 1978 they released a cassette album "Duo" on composer Leo Nilsson's label Studio Viarp. Olsen & Wistrand still works as a duo. During the 80's Wistrand was active on the Swedish alternative rock scene, touring Sweden and Scandinavia and recording three albums with rock group Memento Mori. In the 90's mainly active in Nods Off, but also with other improvisational groups. He participated in FRIM's (The Association of Free Improvised Music) improvisation festival "Sounds 99" at Fylkingen, Stockholm in autumn 1999, where he among others performed with bassist Tuomo Haapala, drummer Peeter Uuskyla and trumpeter Tommy Adolfsson. He has also acted as soloist at poetry readings in co-operation with poet Tomas Haglund and initiated different projects with young improvising musicians such as "the big band" the Memento Creative Orchestra, the free improvising units Fundamental Form and Two Sounds Ensemble, the last one a duo with pianist Joakim Simonsson (CD "Inversions" released in 2004). Fundamental Form has performed with Chicagoan cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm and participated in 2000 and 2001 in FRIM's "Spring Flood"-festival at Fylkingen, Stockholm. The band also performed at the creative music festival "Perspectives 2004" curated by saxophonist Mats Gustafsson in Västerås, Sweden. In 2002-2003 Wistrand played on soundtracks by film composer Thomas Rydell, among them the music for the Swedish motion picture "Hot Dog" by director Alexandra-Therese Keining and featuring actors Marika Lagercrantz and Johanna Sällström. Since 2003 also a member of post punk rock group You Dawg!. In 2006 Wistrand collaborated with artist Anton Engvall in the multimedia exhibition "Bruised Sounds", which was shown at Galleri Jepsen in Eskilstuna.

Peter Olsen has played with pianist Per Henrik Wallin and saxophonist Lars-Göran Ulander in Wallin's 70's trio. During the 80's he was a member of Swedish rock group Lolita Pop. Also in the 80's and 90's member of American guitarist Richard Lloyd's (ex-Television) European group, doing gigs both in Scandinavia and the USA. He has recorded albums with all the above mentioned. During 2004 Peter Olsen produced a CD, "The Stockholm Tapes" on Ayler Records, consisting of unreleased liverecordings from 1975 to 1977 by the Per Henrik Wallin Trio.


Stefan Larsson
has performed in different improvisational frameworks, e.g. with saxophonist Dror Feiler's Too Much Too Soon Orchestra and participated in 1997 in the Nordic Improvisation Festival in Oslo, where he played with multiinstrumentalist Johannes Bergmark and pianist Risto Holopainen. Larsson has accompanied poet Bob Hansson on different occasions a.o. at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark. Larsson also plays in a Stockholm-based free jazz trio with saxophonist Lars Ydgren och percussionist Andreas Axelsson.

Daniel Carlsson plays with improvising electronic duo Metamusik and progressive rock group the Curtain. In spring 2004 the Curtain released their debut album "New Sound Made" (including some reed contributions from Stefan Wistrand). He is also a member of above mentioned improvising group Fundamental Form, where he plays laptop & samples. He has also experience from playing free improvised music in the ensembles CCR and the Memento Creative Orchestra.
