aboutThe history of this group
The origins of this tasting group dates back to the early 1980ies, when a group of young biologists from the Lund University began to discuss whether there was something else to drink besides all that red plonk which was so typical for the 1970ies in Sweden. A first meeting was held in sept 1981, tutored by the father to one the founding members.
During the years there has been some changes among the members. We are of course not so young anymore and some of us are not even biologists! The history of the name is hidden inside an enigma. Some of us also took interest in other fermented beverages, and formed the Beer Club Vörtstyrkan (Wortforce - "probably the best beer club in the world", rather witty in Swedish!)
Current members are: Björn Aksell, C G Dahl, Hans Eriksson, Erling Jirle, Lars Jonsson, Nils Kjellén, Anders Lidén, Håkan Olsson and Olof Persson.
Past members : Bertil Löwkvist, Ulf Ottosson, Rune Svensson and Peter Öhrström.
Our tastings
A typical tasting consists of four or five wines. The wines are always tasted blind, and no clues are given. Each wine is discussed, and then we try to find out which are the wines. Grape, country, district, vintage etc. Sometimes we are right on the spot, but too often not...Some of us also rate the wines on a 20p scale.
