Alan White
Born S.E. London - 26 May 1972
Alan White is the second drummer in oasis. He started plaing with them in April of '95.
Alan had auditioned by a band on Creation records so as soon as Tony was sacked Alan McGee
recommended him to Noel who took him on immediately. He played on top of the pops for his
first public appearance only days after joining and his first real gig was at Glastonbury
'95.
Alan White joined the band by being in the right place at the right time. He was busy
working at Matrix Studios for friends Idha and Andy Bell (ex-Ride) when Noel Gallagher
happened to be there. Noel was looking to replace sacked drummer Tony McCarroll at the
time, and liked the sound Alan was making. Later, Noel called Alan and arranged to meet
him in a pub in Camden. "Then it was Top Of The Pops the next day!". This
meteoric rise to fame was par for the course in the White household: brother Steve was
already famous drumming in Paul Weller's band. "Steve is a big influence on my
playing". Other influences include Clyde Stubblefield, James Brown, The Rolling
Stones and The Beatles.
Of The Beatles, Ringo inevitably is worshipped by Alan: "'A Day In The Life' by The
Beatles...Ringo's tom fills are so sparse, but that's what makes it". Alan claims to
play a subtle part in the songwriting:" We could go away jamming and I could do
something with a little samba rythm or something and he [Noel] could go away humming
it".
Alan is the only southener in the band, but it's not a problem for him: "People have
said this might be a problem, but I'm as straight talking as they are, and they [Oasis]
like me for that".
