Pixies were so great. But there were also so extremely alternative sometimes I couldn't stand it. Some of the stuff they made was oh so beautiful. That was a big shame that they split. For a while. Then I heard Frank Black's first solo album. Wow. Then I heard his second solo album. Wow wow. Then I heard Breaders. Woow. Thank God they split and stopped fighting (Frank Black and Kim Deal) and started to create things of their own instead. It's kinda funny that Breeders sounds more Pixies than Frank Black solo does. Instead, Frank Blank sounds more like John Lennon, Clash... Well, I think every song sounds a bit like some other world artist. He can steal with style. I think Frank Black is one of the greatest rock song writers and vocalists there is and have ever been! June 14 1996, Hultsfred, Sweden The other night in Hultsfred festival 1996. The night before I had seen The Cure and Björk (and lots of others). It was the pop/alternative night. Now it was Friday and it was all rock'n'roll. I'd already seen Bad Religion, Rocket From the Crypt and stuff. Iggy Pop was to come later. Right before Iggy played Frank Blank on a different (smaller) stage. I knew I'd had to go from the ex-Pixies' concert before it ended, if I wanted to get a change to take pictures of Iggy from the pit in front of the stage. We were allowed to do that only under the first song. But now stood Frank there. Didn't look like a rock star (or the teenager of the year). But he sure sounded like one. He is a star to me. I didn't expect it sound so good (I'd heard Pixies live-bootleg recordings). It was like playing the CD through the PA system. Well, almost. After about three songs or something Frank nearly lost his voice. He screams too much. Now, instead of nice, smooth voice (where it needed) out came distorted screamy stuff. It was really shame, cause I really love his voice. Now he had to put a great effort to create any voice at all. He was in pain. "Astral Plain" and other beautiful stuff didn't sound that beautiful anymore. I bought a Frank Black t-shirt before I rushed to see Iggy Pop. More Frank
Black elsewhere:
