SG-2000S
There was this nice block from Stockholm. He said he collected electric guitars, mostly jazz guitars. He was on his way to Jönköping so we decided to meet in Järna, by the motorway. I didn't have to drive all the way to Stockholm that way. We had spoken by the phone earlier and I should take my Gibson Les Paul Standard -90 with me, maybe we could trade guitars. I don't really understand why the guy wanted to sell his dear guitars (he said he needed money) and then suddenly he wanted my Gibson, too. He said he was a wacko. Well, maybe he is. The Yamaha SG 3000S he had to offer was really in great shape. It was like brand new. I wanted it. And the man wanted my Gibson. I made a trade. No money involved. It was a rip off, actually. The Gibson was alright, but you can buy that kind of guitars everywhere and I didn't like it as much as i like my old Yamaha, which I've owned since 1982. It was brand new when I bought it. Yamaha remind a lot of Gibson Les Paul Custom, the guitars weight about the same and look quite similar, too. But I like the Yamaha neck more, it's thinner and more easy to play. The Gibson humbucker pick-ups are hotter than Yamaha pick-ups. If you playing with a clean amp and want a nastier, hotter sound, you may prefer Gibson, but I'm only experiencing an uncontrolled feedback when switched the overdrive channel on in my Laney VH100R. When paused playing, of course. I thought my old guitar, Yamaha SG-2000S was the best guitar every built (well, among the best anyway). but Yamaha SG-3000S, which I never had seen before is better! It's not only more beautiful (more decorations) but it sounds better too! The microphones are not the same and you can split the microphones from humbuckers to single coils by pushing on the tone controls. Then you have thick brass shields around the microphones, I'd guess that makes something to the sound as well. It sounds crispy, brilliant and heavy. It sounds big. It sounds... great! I have to change the strings in my old guitar and adjust the neck and give it full service, then I'll compare my two Yamahas again. At this moment my SG-2000S sounds dull and... old. I will come back to you after I've adjusted it.
