The B-wing starfighter is the newest and most heavily armed ship in the rebel alliance. The B-wing provides much needed firepower and they are frequently used to guard and patrol important escorts.

Since the growing numbers of imperial escort warships, Admiral Ackbar concieved and headed the Shantipole project, and with the aid from verpine colonies of Slayn & Korpil Ackbar designed the B-wing starfighter.
The starfighters advantage in deep space combat are it's so called "SwingWing" configuration, this means that the B-wing can change into three different attackmodes and by this alter the sensor reflection configuration of the vessel.
And by this more easily remain undetected by enemy sensors. It was originally constructed without a hyperdrive motivator but that was later installed due to the battle of Endor.

The Vessels complex design and repair difficulties makes the B-wing spend more time in maintenance than any other starship. Despite this this heavily armed vessel are a great asset to the rebel alliance.
