Tanya Donelly (b.14 jul 1966, Newport, Rhode Island, USA). Tanya along with half sister Kristin Hersh (Tanya´s father & Kristin´s mother got merried) was a founding member of Throwing Muses. She played second fiddle and wrote the occasional song until Hersh took time out to start a family. Donelly eventually left, amicably, after recording The real Ramona.

She had already worked with The Breeders, a female punk-pop super group featuring Kim Deal (Pixies) and Jo Wiggs (Perfect Disaster). Where she played guitar and sang backing vocals on Pod. However, this too was primarily someone else´s band and Donelly finally moved on to form Belly.

Belly originally formed in December 1991 with brothers Tom and Chris Gorman (Verbal Assault), and former Throwing Muses bass player Fred Abong. He was replaced by Leslie Langston(also Throwing Muses) who in turn was replaced by Gail Greenwood (Dames, Boneyard). Belly had debuted with the EPs Slow Dust and then Gepetto which preceded the album, Star. In it´s wake the Feed The Tree EP gave them daytime airplay and a first chart hit, before the album soared to number 2 in the UK charts. Included on it was a version of Trust In Me (from the Disney´s The Jungle Book), a song that sums up the bands appeal: a clash of the nice and the nasty. King was recorded during 1994 in Nassau, Bahamas, with producer Glyn Johns and had writing contributions from both Tom Gorman and Greenwood for the first time, with Chris Gorman continuing to provide distinctive cover imagery. For Donelly´s part the lyrics switched to a first person focus, though when pressed for a summary she would describe the album as "just pop rock like everything else". Oh, I beg to differ!! Wally Gagel(sebadoh) and the old Throwing muses producer Gary Smith has helped her with the producing job on the CD Lovesongs for underdogs(released in the US: sept. 9 & in europe: sept. 8). Donelly released her first solo EP in the fall of 96 called Sliding and Diving. She has then released the first single called Pretty Deep in three versions with different b-sides.
