Latest Probe Beta News
The latest Probe Beta is number 87. It remains operational
until 20/7-98.
Changes in Beta 87:
Beta 87 is a small update, mainly fixing some bugs relating
to the Setup procedure, and also some problems with releasing ownership for files after
doing file-search.
- Bugs Fixed:
- Disk Performance Test failed for floppy-drive, when floppy
was write-protected.
- Creating new folder when running Probe Cab Self Extractor.
- Some frame activation problems, after activating Location
Bar using keyboard.
- Updating of Disk Monitor, when disk free space changes.
- Open item included in popup-menus for compressed/remote
file-items.
- Search-files, release owner-ship correctly, after changing
base-folder for search.
- Release ownership, when copying to a collector, in cash of
name clash.

startup.
Changes in Beta 86:
- New Functionality:
- Added FTP functinality:
- Probe can now handle Server to Server file-transfers. In
this mode, the contents of the transfered files travels the shortest path on the Internet,
rather than through your Probe FTP Client.
- File copy/move within a single FTP-server implemented,
without the file-contents beeing transfered on the Internet at all. (It's actually a
special case of the feature described above.)
- Probe now remembers if it was closed down minimized, and
starts minimized the next time.
- Shell Improvements:
- Implementation of the 'Send To' popup menu in context menus.
- Keyboard accelerators F5 (Copy), F6
(Move), F7 (New Folder) now also works in Shell Folders (better under
WinNT than under W95).

wildcard, deselect with wildcard) also work in shell folders.

Shell, Shell to Probe and Shell to Shell file-transfers.

- Repainting and Scrolling in Folder Browsers have been much
improved. Also, the interaction with the Icon Loader Thread has been reworked.

- Optimized progress indicators, so that they're not updated
to often. Packing/Unpacking many small files benefits from this.
- Better upload rate for FTP after doing dynamic buffer
resizing at socket level.
- Bugs Fixed
- File popup-menu overview. Items 'making no sense' for a
particular storage type have been removed.
- A bug relating to file-times beeing wrong at the last day
each month has been fixed.

handle special cases such as filenames with spaces etc. Progress indicators should be
accurate for most cases now.
