Settings for Probe
- Most settings and options for various aspects of Probe are available
under the Settings Pulldown Menu.

- Under the File Operations item of the Settings
Pulldown Menu, all different options relating to file-operations are available, as a
tabbed dialog.

- One common file-operation is to synchronize the contents of two
sub-folders. We may want to make sure that if a file exists in both of the directories,
that the newest, or the largest, of these two files with identical names, be stored in the
target directory.
- With Probe this is accomplished by using the File Clash
Settings settings sheet. With these options we can specify exactly what action to
take in case of a name-clash during a file copy (or move) operation.
By checking Use the Newest File option in this
dialog, directory synchronization can be performed. When Probe encounters a file
clash during a file-operation, it will pause to query on what action to take.

- If we wish a file-operation to proceed without any dialogs querying
on what action to take, in case of any problems, the check-box Silent Mode
can be marked in Figure 2. This option is also available when initiating a file-operation.
This option is practical, when we start a large file-operation which
may take a long time to complete. We may want to work with other applications, or may be
absent from the computer, while the operation is in progress.
To get feedback in Silent Mode, in case of any problems, the Log
Window can be used. This Probe component logs all file operations that Probe
performs. If any files were not properly handled, or whether any name clashes happened,
can tracked in the Log Window.
