The Summer -97 U.S.A. trip

As I already told you this whole trip started out when I flow over to Cleveland, OHIO to meet with my girlfriend who had worked there as an Au-pair for the last 9 months.

Since the host family didn't want me to stay at the house, we decided to go to my relatives in upper state NEW YORK. So the very next day after my arrival we went down to the Greyhound station in Cleveland. (I was allowed to stay at the house the first one night when I got there) We were now ready to hit the road, with just our back-packs on our backs and the money in the wallet.

We bought a one way ticket to Glens Falls, which is the nearest place with a Greyhound station to Granville, where our final destination was. We got on the bus with a lot higher expectations than we should have had. It sure wasn't the kind of bus that I would like to  go 2300 miles, which was about total the of the travel we did with greyhound.

The ´97 U.S.A. road trip

But what the H--L just because it was a poor bus, that didn't stop us from continuing our trip. After about 2/3 of our trip to Glens Falls the bus had a flat tire, in a small place called Geneva, where we had to wait for 5 hours!!!, just because the communication between the driver and the head quarter in Dallas, TEXAS was so bad. There was a local tire company 10 minutes walk from where we stopped, but the driver wasn't a lot to hire them before the head quarter finally got their things together and also understood that that would be the best for everyone at the time, and when the man came to fix the tire it took him 15 minutes to do so. What do we learn from this??, that Greyhound should be a little more flexible, now a whole bus of passengers had to wait 5 hours to have a tire changed that could have been done in 30 minutes if there wouldn't have had to be so much bureaucracy and paper turning down in Dallas.

We finally got on the road again, and arrived at my relatives about 12-14 hours too late.
Since we missed all the connecting transfers, first in Syracuse and later in Albany, where we had to stay for a couple of hours until the busses started to go again.

-Ahhh finally there!!!

It sure was worth the trip when we got there, to be on the countryside in Granville at the farm.
The few days we had there went by pretty fast, and now it was time to take the bus again.
The only difference from last time was that now we know what is was like, and that we now know that this trip would be about 3-4 times as long as the first time.

about 48 hours later we got of the bus in Denver, COLORADO This time we were lucky enough not to have any unexpected problems on the road like the flat tire last time.

We had now past through 8 states by bus and seen things like the Mississippi River and the Cleveland Greyhound Bus Station "by Night". It sure was a relief to stretch the legs and put the feet down in Denver. Now we found our way over to the Hotel where we were booked in to meet the rest of the "Trek-group". And then we had a whole day in Denver to se some of the City. A thing that I like with Denver is that you can see the snow beclothed mountains when you walk around on the streets.
