Black metal ala Norway. That's probably what most of you think when you hear "Satyricon". Ok if so, you're not way wrong but.. yes they are norwegian, yes they play black metal (even more "real" black metal than COF), and as you might know, I'm not a big fan of bands in that genre in general. But let me tell ya this is one hell of an album. So what it's black metal, as long as it's done in such an innovative and original way as it is here, I don't complain. Here we get lots of great melodic riffs and leads you don't hear coming from many black metal bands, plus that these guys are splendid musicians so even if they play as fast as most regular BM bands, they do it with talent (and MUCH variation!).
