After two average albums german Blind Guardian decided to do something better. And, they
managed by releasing "Tales from the twilight world" in 91, which is one of the most intense
albums in their career. It's still very close to thrash metal, but with so much more energy
than the last two albums. And they do it good now so why complain. Although since there's
lots of sing along-choruses here I get a strong feeling of power metal ala Helloween and
such, so I'd like to call the style something of a thrash/power metal hybrid.
As usual Hansi is a killer at singing, not that I can complain on the others though,
Thomen hits his kit hard and fast as hell (how does he do that??) and Andre plays lots
of great leads and nice solos. What's making me drop the 5 is that some of the songs here
I could've lived without, and besides I think there's too little variation also.
And Kai Hansen's little vocal performance in "Lost in the twilight hall" doesn't make anyone
but the real power metal freaks happy, all we others turn our heads away and do a big *sigh*.
It's a quite good song though, but why the hell did Kai have to destroy it like that?
Other great tunes here are "Traveler in time", "Lord of the rings" and "Goodbye my friend".
