When you first hear the name 'Skyclad' you think "oh.. another in the endless
row of copying power metal bands?" but take a listen. You'll find you were
very wrong. This is a british band that play something I call folk-metal,
it's like a mix of british/irish folk music and regular metal.
It's got lots of these really happy fiddle (violin) melodies, as well as
your standard metal riffs.
And the vocals... I don't know how to describe them cause I can't compare
it to anything. The guy sings clean, but doesn't have that high-pitched voice
of standard power metal. Although he's not got the best voice I've heard
in my life, it's great anyway.
I didn't have much expectations on this album, but after a few hours I
found myself listening to it, over and over again. Not one of these tracks
are bad! They're all pretty awesome I've to say. Just listen to "No strings
attached" which is one of the best & most progressive tracks here and
I'd classify that song as pure folk music. It's performed with
acoustic guitar & fiddle, you really get that "english pub" feeling
when hearing it.
If you're tired of the regular metal records the world has to give, try this.
I promise you won't be in a bad mood as you hear it.
