Kvalrysare. För alla med svaga nerver var Värendsvallen
inte rätt ställe att besöka lördagen den
30 oktober. Båda lagen och kanske framförallt Öster
spelade nervöst. Första halvleken blev också
ganska avvaktande. Några chanser skapades., Cedermarker
hade ett bra läge, men fick inte till avslutningen. |

George Graham's side nearly suffered an early blow when they momentarily lost former England striker Les Ferdinand, after a clash of heads with Duberry, but the Tottenham star recovered and came back on after treatment. Spurs then had a let off after only 10 minutes, when after Alan Smith was fouled near the corner flag, the free kick whipped in, hit Tim Sherwood under pressure from Duberry and Chris Perry cleared off the line. A quick break five minutes later almost gave United the lead, but as Ian Harte took aim and unleashed a shot from the edge of the area, Stephen Carr blocked the effort to save the home side. Danny Mills returned the compliment moments later, getting in the way of Leonhardsen's shot and then Steffen Iversen fired over Nigel Martyn's crossbar, when he should have tested the England keeper. Martyn did have to make a save from the Norwegian after Spurs' next attack and then dived at the feet of Leonhardsen as he ran in ready for a rebound. After yellow cards for Bowyer for Leeds and Taricco for Spurs, the game lost it's way until, Ginola again tested Mills down the left, crossed for Iversen, whose header was brilliantly tipped round the post by Martyn.
