Since 1993 all new cars have been classified in 3 different environmental classes. It is up to the car manufacturers to apply for better classification.

The classification of cars depends on the emission of exhaust fumes of carbon monoxide, carbon hydrogen, nitrogen monoxids and particles .The sales of environmentally classified cars has increased from 11% in 1992 to 60% in 1996.

The environment classification system has been introduced to reduce the negative effect of automobiles on the environment. This is a way to encourage lower exhaust pollution long before it becomes obligatory.

Class 1 & 2 cars have lower emission then class 3 cars.Class 3 cars must be under the legal level of emission. Cars with a higher emission canīt be sold. Environmental classifications will change in time. The voluntary demand for classes 1 & 2 creates pressure to reduce the legal level of class 3.

Interiors in new cars

In the first year the interior of a new car gives off fumes from solvents etc. This creates a build up on the inside of the cars windows. The car manufacturers should know and give information about whats in the upholstery.
