The
summer trip 2001 went to the land of the high mountains and the
deep fjords, Norway.
As we all are from Gothenburg in Sweden just 280 km from the
capital of Norway, Oslo, it felt natural to begin with the middle part of
Norway this year.
We
took road E6 from Gothenburg and crossed the Norwegian border at
Strömstad 130 km southeast Oslo. To avoid Oslo we took the Dröbakktunnelen,
the new tunnel under the Oslofjord.
Oslo is a really nice city though but we´d been there before
and it was a +30 C hot day, not the best weather to do a city
walk in leather cloths.
By
taking the tunnel we passed Oslo´s Westside on E16 heading
towards Hönefoss, our goal for the first day. We stayed at
Utvika camping, right outside Hönefoss, in an 8-bed cabin.
A
reasonably cheap and comfortable way of travel in Norway is to
rent cabins.
The prices for a cabin are 250-800 NOK according to size,
facilities and comfort.
There
was no problem finding free cabins and we never had to unpack
the tents. And we were really glad to have the cabin when it,
later the first evening, started a terrible thunderstorm.

The
next day we´re taking road 7 to Gol and then road 52 to
Hemsedal where we´re staying for lunch. Now the landscape
changes as we enter the region famous for it´s ski resorts at
wintertime and the mountains becomes higher and higher.
The
goal for this evening is Laerdal and after passing a 26 km long
tunnel we found a camping in Laerdal where we got a room for 180
NOK/pers incl. sheets, this is quite expensive but it was very comfortable.
After a good meal in the camping´s restaurant we took the
opportunity to do some climbing.
Day
3 starts with 6 km tunnel to Fodnes where there´s a 20 min
ferry-trip and then an other tunnel. Now the really nice roads
begins with lots of tunnels and curves close to the clear blue
fjords. On numerous occasions we had to pull the brakes not to
run into sheep or cows that was laying on the road.
After
we´d done some repairing on a Trike we drove toward Olden and Loen
where we found a nice camping where we rented a 4-bed cabin for 360
NOK.
Later
that evening we´re stumbling into a pub and the pub owner
recommended a visit at the glacier Kjenndalsbreen. He told us
that it´s just as beautiful as the more famous Briksdalsbreen but not that many tourists
knows about it. |
