About CSICOP

The more serious-minded among us ask what is going on. Why the sudden explosion of interest, even among some otherwise sensible people, in all sorts of paranormal "happenings"? Are we in retreat from the scientific ideas of rationality, dispassionate examination of evidence, and sober experiment that have made modern civilization what it is today? For a long time, the raising and answering of such questions have been left to commentators and journalists. Eighteen years ago, scientists started to fight back. They set up an organization - the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal - to investigate unusual phenomena. Some of the founding members of CSICOP included scientists, academics, and science writers such as Carl Sagan, Isaac Asimov, Philip Klass, Paul Kurtz, Ray Hyman, James Randi, Martin Gardner, Sidney Hook, and others. A list of CSICOP fellows is published in every issue of Skeptical Inquirer magazine.

Vetenskap och folkbildning    Årets folkbildare och årets förvillare

Föreningen Vetenskap och Folkbildning har till uppgift att främja folkbildning om vetenskapens metoder och resultat. Särskilt tar föreningen som sin uppgift att i en fri opinionsbildning bekämpa de felaktiga föreställningar som förekommer i frågor som kan avgöras vetenskapligt. En viktig del av den vetenskapliga folkbildningen är att klargöra vilka frågor som kan respektive inte kan avgöras med vetenskapliga medel. Föreningen ansluter sig till den politiska demokratins principer. Föreningen är partipolitiskt neutral och neutral i religiösa trosfrågor.
