THE RANGER ACADEMY

Northeast of the Western Gate, a narrow path led towards a small, wooden building surrounded by towering pine trees.
Filtered light from the canopy above, shown upon an engraved sign to the left of the large set of double doors. It reads:

Acumin Ranger Academy

The sound of clashing metal and enthusiastic shouts could be heard above the chittering sounds of the squirrels and birds that played on the roof and high in the trees. It was here that potential Rangers received their training with the hopes of one day bearing the silver symbol that denoted them as accepted Rangers of Acumin.

ACUMIN WEAPONS ACADEMY

Near the outskirts of town, surrounded in trees, sat a fair size, and relatively plain looking building. As you approach, you notice a sign hanging from above the oak door that reads, simply:

ACUMIN WEAPONS ACADEMY

-TRAINER: MASTER BROOKS-

The front door opens into a large room, with only two other visible doors. Judging by the size of the building, compared to this room...the doors don't go to far. Inside the large chambers are many straw figures with targets painted on them, various racks on the walls with many assortments of weapons, and a padded mat off to the centre of the room. On the mat is a middle aged human, wearing a brown leather tunic and pants, performing many kicks and manoeuvres with the bo-staff in his hands. Standing to the side and a bit behind him, is a younger, and frustrated looking human, dressed in the same garb following a long with the others sequences. Neither man appears to have noticed you enter...

TEMPLE OF DIANA

Almost completely covered by lush climbing vines and fragrant blooms, the Temple of Acumin stood with distinction near the City Hall in Town Square. A grand white stairway led up to a columned terrace and a doorway crafted out of finely polished hardwood. The door was open, and upon entering, you were greeted by a sense of inner peace and joy. A pleasant scent of flowers and herbs floated upon the air in the brightly lit chamber. Inside, the ceiling loomed high above in great arches that braced colourfully painted panels. A cleverly positioned skylight directed a beam of sunshine down upon a raised water basin and white altar in the centre of the room. A series of alcoves and doorways were along both sidewalls, all the way down to the back. Inside each depression was a marble statue. Each darkly polished door had a silver symbol engraved over the top of the doorframe.

GRUMPY SAM’S ALCHEMY SHOP

(Again, keep your sticky fingers of it unless you are called AGM Jay-Dev)

The path down to the shop was littered with garbage. Rotting potatoes, spoiled fish and excrement was strewn all over the place. A mountain of garbage loomed ominously over the building, which by the looks of it would be better of classified as a hut. Situated in front of Acumin’s waste pit, the smell was horrendous, and as an effect not many people dared stay long…just the way Sam liked it. As you enter the shop you notice that the outside doesn’t reflect the inside one bit. The shabby woodwork and hay roof gives way to shiny metal, indeed the whole front room is made from this metal. A serving counter, with steel bars reaching to the roof, splits the room in half. Behind the counter are all the wares that may be purchased, neatly put in boxes or on shelves, effectively stopping anybody from obtaining an item without supervision from the owner. A keen eye would read the descriptions on the different items, which would show that the main income source would be from selling medicines and chemicals to citizens and mages alike.

In a corner is probably the ugliest little thing you have ever seen. A gnome merely 2.5 feet high, his robe stained in all the colours of the rainbow…and a few more for that matter. He sits on a chair in front of a desk, both made of the same metal that covers the room, and ruffles through a great heap of paper. Muttering and cursing he jots down an equation here and a hypothesis there. Seeing you enter the building he gets up and walks over to the counter, which by the way is much higher than him. Another round of cursing can be heard before any attention seems to be turned to your direction.

From somewhere below the counter a voice can be heard, “Well what the hell do ya want! Come on I haven’t got all bloody day!”

THE WIZARDS TOWER

A massive iron door guarded the broad main entry to the Wizard's Tower. Its face engraved with griffons and dragons in endless conflict around a smaller door in its centre. The normal door was open to allow the day-to-day traffic, students, merchants and supplicants converged in it. Inside it a chamber nicely appointed with blue cloth divans filled with fluffy pillows. A rich tapestry repelled the glow of a magical lamp suspended from a short chain from a ceiling. A strange desk stood against the north wall, a muscular young woman smiled coldly. Her long dark hair fell over her face giving her a mysteriously air

CITY GUARD

A low two story building with a 6ft high wall, sitting on the edge of town along the city wall, houses the headquarters of the City Guard. When you enter you see a small desk to your left, and half a dozen or so guardsmen lounging around the room. At the desk is a perky looking blonde haired guardswoman, who looks up as you enter. "Serale, may I be of assistance?" she asks, straightening her uniform and regarding you with a pair of sea blue eyes.

GENERAL STORE

In the heart if the merchant district in town square, is the general store. In front of the quaint little building are a large number of barrels and displays featuring a wide assortment of fruits and vegetables.

Inside the store, a vast selection of wares can be seen, everything seems to be available, from shovels to cooking spices.

A halfing emerges from the back room, wiping his hands on his white apron.

"Serale! Serale! What can I help you with today? I have venison jerky on special!"

THE SILVERBOUGH INN AND TAVERN

Before you stands a two-story wooden building with a brightly painted sign hanging over a large oak door. The sign proclaims this to be the Silverbough Inn and Tavern.

Pulling open the heavy door, your eyes adjust to the dimly lit, cosy room beyond. A huge stone fireplace blazes cheerfully against the back wall where two cauldrons bubble and steam, permeating the air with a mouth-watering aroma.

Artfully balancing a large round tray, a dark haired waitress gracefully moves around the busy tables, serving drinks and heaping plates of food to her various patrons.

A gaudily dressed minstrel strums and picks out a lively tune to the left side of the smooth stoned hearth as an old story teller draws a small crowd at the end of the long oaken bar.

Taking his pipe out from between his teeth, the hulking barkeep turned his attention towards the door.

"Serale!" he said from behind a scruffy black beard. "What can I 'git for ya?"

THE WOLFS DEN

Secreted away in the centre of a dense grove of trees beyond the main streets of Town Square, stood a rustic one-story building. A placard above the door pictured a long dagger and a sinister looking wolf. Daytime scenario: A sign posted to the right of the door clearly stated the hours of business as being dusk to dawn. The door was currently locked, and no sound could be heard other than the twittering of birds high in the trees. A narrow path led towards a shack on the side of the building.

Night scenario: A small lantern hung from a metal hook to the right of the door, sending a beacon of light into the dark night. Loud laughter could be heard, along with an occasional shout amidst the rowdy music that filtered out from inside. The Wolf’s Den Tavern was open for business, although what kind of clientele it catered to, would remain unknown unless one dared to venture inside.....

THE ACUMIN SCHOOL OF ALLERIAN LAW

There is a dirt path on the entrance to the dirt path is a sign a colorful wooden sighs sways in the wind, it says in bold letters "Acumin School of Allerian Law" the pathway continues through the beautiful woods, soon a river appears on the side of the pathway, as you continue further up the pathway the river cuts off the dirt path and a huge bridge across the river. There stands a tall white building, it has a red roof with a tall tower in the centre, with a spiral out the top of it, there is a window towards the top of the tower shaped like a sun. There is deep green grass everywhere except for the continuing pathway up to the door of the building above the door is a plaque that says in bold gold letters "Acumin School of Allerian Law" as you enter the foyer the floors are marble it is very silent. Large dark brown doors on all sides of you are closed there is a elegant white marble stair case leading upwards around a bend you can not see. There is a long hallway and every so often there are students seen passing from room to room. There is a large desk in front of you with a young woman sitting at the desk, she appears to be filing papers. Her hair is tied up in an almost educated manner she wears a long tight velvet green dress with a swirl designs on it, with a gold chain belt around her waist. She smiles and stand up looking at you a smile crosses her face. "Serale and welcome to The Acumin School of Allerian Law, how may I help you?" The receptionist stands waiting for your reply

DELMA’S DESIGN

Delma's Designs was located in the friendly neighborhood of Silverpine Way. A sign on the outside of the cute little house pictured a lovely lady holding a pair of scissors and a fancy comb. All of the more wealthy inhabitants knew Delma, and she had made for herself a steady amount of income in the town of Acumin as well as being a hub for girlish gossip.

SWIFT STEED STABLES

Located West of Town Square, was the magnificent Swiftsteed Stables. Here, horses could be bought, sold, or traded with the assurance of a fair deal. Morgan Darnauk took great pride in the quality and care of his horses. "Only the finest!" was the local word, and no doubt it was true. Closing the gate leading to the back paddocks, a young, human man approached. His long black hair was tied back with a strip of leather. Smiling, he walked over to greet his visitor.

"Serale. How can I help you?" he asked, brushing off some stray bits of hay from his shirtsleeve.

MONASTERY OF ENNUI (MAY NOT BE USED YET)

Just South of the City walls of Acumin is a clearing amongst the dense forest, dominated by a large, low hill covered in a thin layer of grass. At the summit of this hill pushed up to the edge of a stand of oaks tress,
lies the ancient grounds of a monastery. Were it not for the well maintained garden and the sounds of activity the old building would seem deserted. Following an old but well maintained path, you find yourself in front of the main doors where two female soldiers wearing the librea of Diana ready their weapons at your sudden arrival.
"Halt".-one of the soldiers shouts.-"In the name of Sacred Diana, state your name and intentions."
Then the female guard looks upon you with her one good eye. The other one was hidden behind a dark patch.

CELEA’S STITCHERY

Near the busy town square, was a small shop with a brightly painted sign hanging over the
door. Depicting a needle and thread, this was the Acumin tailor shop: Celena's Stitchery

On the outside of the building was a large window display, where a wide assortment of clothing was presented to tempt the curious passer-by. Inside, the shop was neat and tidy. Several racks contained premade cloaks, pants, and dresses.

Behind a long counter, a young elven woman with long, brown braids looked up from her work and smiled pleasantly.

"Serale, and welcome to my shop. How can I help you?"

FENTAR’S FORGE

A wide dirt pathway led up to the huge double doors of a barn-shaped, rustic building. On a pole to the right hung an engraved wooden sign that read: Fentar's Forge

The doors were open, and inside were racks of weaponry and armour in various stages of completion. Looped onto metal hooks in the massive ceiling beams were an assortment of farming equipment, helmets, and other odds and ends. On a heavy workbench to the left, was a variety of horseshoes and templates.

In the centre of the building, a stout, heavily muscled dwarf lifted a red-hot, curved piece of metal from the forge with a pair of heavy tongs. Bringing it to a massive anvil, he pounded it into shape with a loud clang, creating a shower of sparks that fell to the sandy floor below.

Looking up, he put his work aside and approached with a rolling gate.

"Serale! What cans I do fer ya?" he asked.

LILYPOND PARK

Lilypond Park was a popular Acumin retreat featuring a beautiful pond stocked with colourful fish and lush reeds. Along its banks were weeping willows and small benches where one could sit and relax away the tensions of the day. It was also a place where the students of Arcana practiced their meditations and where the clerics of the Temple found peace with nature. It was a welcome sight to all who were weary with the trials of life.

FARQUARSON’S APOTHECARY AND DRUG EMPORIUM

Branching off the west road out of town, you see a dirt path heading south and nailed to a tree at the head of this path is a faded wooden sign that reads:

Farquarson's Apothecary and Drug Emporium
Cures for all ills
Potions
Powders
Tonics

Hamish Farquarson, proprietor

After you avoid tripping in the wagon ruts worn in the path, and push past the bushes crowding in around you, you see before you a clearing. In the centre stands a small earthen hut with a moss-covered roof. A line of smoke drifts lazily from the small chimney.

To the right of the building you see a covered wagon bearing the same words as the sign you just read. Grass has grown tall next to the wheels, indicating that it hasn't moved recently. To the left of the hut, you see a small garden, in which grows plants and herbs of many varieties. The thing that commands your attention in the garden, though, is the backside of the old dwarf who is working there. He hasn't seemed to notice you, as he is intent on caring for his plants.

"NAaAaAaAa!"

You are both startled by a small black and white goat that has appeared from around the corner of the hut, and when you look back to the dwarf, he is regarding you suspiciously.

"What be you wantin, stranger?"

ACUMIN TRADE OFFICE

On the eastern part of town, near the military district, a group of warehouses made up Acumin's trade centre. Some of the buildings were for storage of goods, some holding merchandise awaiting transport to other cities in the Allerian Empire.

The front building, however, was the trade office itself, as proclaimed by a metal placard above the door. A silver bell rang as the door was opened. A little man with large spectacles looked up from a ledger he was writing in.

"Serale. Buying, selling, or cargo transportation?" He asked in a nasal voice.

ERAL THE RIDDLER

An old man sat on a bench in the temple gardens. His cane leaned against the bench, his loyal retriever lay at his feet. The days he spent there where for rest and relaxation. Always on the same spot, always with the same twinkle in his eyes. The temple gardener had raised a shelter for him, its purpose to keep the rain and strong sun of the fragile being underneath. Rumour had it that he was of noble birth and had owned the richest wood distribution centre in Acumin (now owned by the O’Maray family). When asked this he merely shrugged and asked if a certain riddle could be solved. Riddles where what he told to pass the time. Children that where able to solve them got sugar bars and honey buttons, for the adults he gave out bronze figurines depicting the sacred three. To own one of these was a great honour in Acumin, for the riddles where hard and tricky. Another rumour was he never asked the same riddle twice…

The sun shines bright this day. There is not a cloud in the emerald blue sky. A slight breeze rustles through the birch trees. A lone buzzard can be heard calling for its mate in the distance. Along the path colourful flowers and trimmed bushes blossom. Eral, as the old man is called, sits at a junction where one path becomes two. The orchids behind him give the most soothing of fragrances. He looks at you with his radiant eyes. Removing some creases from his dark green robe a smile plays across his face, as if he sees some hidden humour in the whole situation.

“A riddle to calm the soul, a riddle the build the mind, a riddle to pass the time. What can an old man do for you?”

Again his deep blue eyes fix on you persona, drilling deep into your essence.
