Is an epic tale taking place in the year 3000, when the world is at war with more then just human opponents, the Tau, Elders, Orks, Tyranids and the dreaded Necrons. The vast space is the breeding ground of the giant armies of all these creatures, the planets, battle ground for the ultimate fight for survival. Millions of rules and tactics can be used to play this game... But I couldn't care less. For me, the building and painting of the figures is the thrill, paying attenction to small details, geting your fingers glued together, geting paint on the table that you know you'll never get clean, swearing your tounge rotten over misstakes. Thats the beauty of it all, for me.
Space Marines are the most powerful and dreaded of all the human warriors in Warhammer 40,000. They are not Human at all but superhuman, having been made superior, in all respects, to a normal man by a harsh regime of genetic modification, psycho-conditioning and rigourous training. Being few in number compared to the uncounted billions of Humanity, Space Marines are organised into small independent armies called Chapters. Each Chapter is responsible for its own recruitment, training, equipment, organisation and strategy. Their unswerving loyalty is to the Emperor of Mankind and no other.
The Tau were a new, fast-rising civilisation who were comparatively young in terms of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, having only become a starfaring race within the last few millennia. The Tau empire, we proposed, would be lodged deep in the Eastern Fringes, far from the most strongly held regions of the Imperium. This meant that although the Tau empire was tiny in comparison to the might of the Imperium or the numberless hordes of the Orks and Tyranids, it would be a big fish in a small pond. The Tau possessed an impressive grasp of technology and its armed forces were superbly equipped with the best weapons and armour their race could devise - grav tanks, energy weapons, armoured battle suits and so forth. The Tau race itself was highly focused and well-organised, following a rigid caste system based around the four elements of earth, air, fire and water. The Earth caste were builders, farmers and engineers, the Air caste were messengers, pilots and starship crews, the Fire caste were warriors with all that snazzy wargear, while the Water caste fulfilled the role of merchants and diplomats.
Millennia ago, the Eldar empire stretched from one edge of the galaxy to the other, long before man took his first steps toward the stars. These ancient aliens built a highly advanced society, with sophisticated technology and a means of traveling quickly across the galaxy through their warp gates. However, a terrifying cataclysm shook the very foundations of this great race and forced the few remaining survivors of the Eldar to retreat into the darkness of space upon their vast Craftworld starships.
While the heretical forces of Chaos and the bio-consuming might of the Tyranids pose terrible dangers to the worlds of the Imperium, it is the barbaric and seemingly endless hordes of the Orks which are the greatest threat to the galaxy. Engulfing entire worlds like a frenzied green tide, Ork warbands have threatened to overrun entire sectors in a tremendous storm of bloodshed and violence. Willing to take on any enemy and even turning upon each other if no opponents present themselves, Orks are perhaps the most aggressive race in the known universe.
From beyond the fringes of the galactic rim a terrifying and utterly alien race known only as the Tyranids threatens to consume our galaxy and all of its inhabitants. The countless alien bio-beasts of the Tyranids swarm upon unsuspecting worlds with an implacable hunger which strips planets bare of even the most primitive nutrients. In their wake they leave nothing but cold, airless moons before moving insatiably onward toward their next prey. Formed of millions of specially -adapted bio-genetic monstrosities, the Tyranid swarm uses no technology. Instead, all of their battle gear and weapons are formed of hyper-evolved living organisms which crawl, bite, dissolve and burrow through their enemies with ease.
The Necrons, an alien race ancient beyond imagining, are awakening from their sixty-million year dormancy to plague the living once more. Thousands of immortal, soulless warriors have risen from dusty stasis-tombs, intent on preying on the teeming species of the galaxy. Their miraculous technology was far in advance of any contemporary equivalent long before the Eldar, reckoned the oldest among races, had even come into existence. Although the Imperium of Mankind has only recently acknowledged the Necrons’ reappearance, their monstrous gods feasted upon colossal stars before the planets themselves were born.
