Extra doors on Tristar 500

All Tristar model 1 to 250 (long fuselage) has eight doors, four on each side. The #1 to #3 doors are all of the "wide" type but the #4 (aft) doors can be of either "wide" or "narrow" type. Tristar 500 (short fuselage) only has six doors and they are all of the "wide" type.

The first Tristar 500 to be converted with an extra set of emergency exit doors was serial no 1183. The work was ordered by Rich International and carried out by Delta Airlines some years ago and the extra doors were taken from a scrapped Tristar, serial no 1003. These doors are of the "narrow" type and located just behind the wings (between the original #2 and #3 doors).

Royal Jordanian Airlines five Tristar 500īs have all been sold to American Trans Air and they will all be converted with these extra doors. The work has already been carried out on N163AT, s/n 1229.

Installation of these doors is a necessary modification on Tristar 500 when bringing them on US registration. Aircrafts already on US register are not affected.
