--- The biography ---

Jarmo and Johan met in a studio in January 1994 and discovered that they'd been listening to the same kind of music during the past years. They discovered that they had the same thoughts about how a good song should be arranged (i.e. a beautiful melody that is carried on floating analogue sounds with simple bass and drum arrangements) and therefore decided to try out to make music together.
They met again later in that summer and wrote, Imagination, Stay, Sail on and Goodbye. The result turned out to be better than they'd expected, and that same summer Daily Planet was born.

All the songs are written on guitar except Stay and Superman that are made directly on the syntheziers. This way of working with the music has its explanation, Jarmo lives in Gothenburg and Johan in rebro (approximately 240 km from each other) therefore this was a necessary solution. By corresponding with cassettes they can still make music although they live in different cities.

About four or five times per year they get together and arrange the songs that they've made. - In this case we never compromise! Jarmo says. - If a song wont feel "right" from the very beginning we just put it on the shelf rather than make a mediocre song, we need quality not quantity in our work.

The first gig was performed on Elecromania II in rebro (Sweden) under the name of U-men, march 10 1995. Alexander Hofman (S.P.O.C.K) was the announcer on the festival. He really liked the music that they played and offered them to accompany S.P.O.C.K on their gig in Gothenburg one month later. Fredrik Rundqvist worked at that time at Energy Rekords and heard Daily Planet on that gig. He offered them a contract at Energy in May 95 and released their first single "Milky Way" august the same year.

- The name U-men was changed to Daily Planet before the concert in Gothenburg because we felt that it wasn't synonymous with the music we played. Jarmo says. He felt that Daily Planet was a better name and they couldn't be mistaken for ripping it from another band in the same scene.

The musical influences come from bands that came with the british synthpop wave in the early eighties, such as O.M.D, Yazoo, Depeche Mode and german Kraftwerk. - Another favourite band of ours are White Door that only released one album, but what an ALBUM!! Johan says. Really worth the effort if you can find it, it's a musical masterpiece made in the eighties!!! Some Swedish bands that also are worth mentioning, Adolphson & Falk, Lustans Lakejer, Ratata, Nasa, Tredje Mannen and Twice a Man.
