On behalf of the Swedish delegation I hereby have the privilege of inviting you to join the 47rd Nordic Conservative Summer Camp. The camp of 1997 takes place 19-26 July at the camp site belonging to the Swedish Scout Organisation. It is called Monäro and is situated about 100 kilometres south of Stockholm. The participants are anything between 18 and 77 years old - with different interests and backgrounds. If you are interested in spending a different kind of holiday in Sweden, together with people from all of the Nordic countries it is a good idea to read on. The Swedish staff is looking forward to meeting you this summer in Sweden - at the 47rd Nordic Conservative Summer Camp at Monäro Yours sincerely Leif

This invitation is sent by landmail to people that would like to spend a small part of the summer in Sweden, meeting new friends and having lots of fun. The things that make a person a perfect camper are really only... ... that you can spend one week at a camp, living in a tent, ... that you are a happy and cheerful person with a lot of humour and respect for others ... that you like partying, a limited amount of sports, singing and life in its best forms. |

Every year, since 1951, a summer camp has been arranged in the last week of July. This year it takes place the 19-26 of July. The camp is arranged by the delegations from the Nordic countries in turn. Last year we went to Denmark, this year you are invited to Sweden and next year to Norway.
This year's camp is held at a camp site in Södermanland, called "MONÄRO". It belongs to the Swedish Scouts and is situated between Malmköping and Eskilstuna.
The very first camps were arranged by NUU (the Nordic Young Conservative Union) and consisted of a lot of political seminars, speeches and discussions - besides the traditional showtimes, evenings around the campfire and the other very special moments that have made the camp - and the campers - a rather special feeling and friendship.
The connection with the political parties exists in some way even today, but the political parts of the camp have given way to other activities. Now, spending a week together with old friends and meeting new ones from all over the Nordic countries and other parts of Europe means more than discussing political issues. The camps during the last years have been arranged under the name of FCN - which stands for Fraternitus Camposium Norwegia (something like "Spending time together in a Nordic Camp).
Monäro is situated about 100 kilometres south of Stockholm. The camp site is designed by scouts - for scouts - and has everything a camper might need. A small lake for swimming is found only a few hundred metres from the camp.
At a camp everyone does what he or she pleases. The main rule is to respect others and that "you'll only have as fun as you make it yourself". Everyone has a free choice of activities, but of course there are some traditional things:
An evening of singing, jokes and competitions. Every delegation (country) takes care of one evening each. Anything can happen...
One evening we arrange a special dinner were every country invites the others to their own special food and drink.A kind of Nordic smorgasbord with anything you can think of.
A very special night is the dance night when we dress up a bit more than usual and "dance the night away.:".
The traditional volleyball-tournament is the one of the hottest events of the week. Not a lot of perfect strategy, but a lot of fun. Apart from that, it is up to the campers...
A daily newspaper is produced and tells the stories about the day before, the day today and the days to come.
Besides the above anything that sounds and feels right will be arranged. No camp is the same as the one before.
The camp site...
Every delegation has its own part of the camp where they stay. Apart, but not far from the others. Silence after midnight and respect for others is the keyword.
Rules and regulations
A summer camp is no place for a lot of rules and regulations, even though basic rules about the camp exist. The main rule is that everyone should have a fun and relaxing week and that everyone takes their part of the daily work in keeping the camp going.
