A Peaceful Solution to the Kurdish Question

Appeal to the governments of the Nordic countries

We the Nordic Kurdish Peace Council, assembled in Stockholm on the 1-2nd of February, hereby appeal to the Nordic countries to support and work for a peaceful solution to the kurdish question.

We find the situation in the kurdish areas of Turkey, enlarged to the neighbouring countries by the turkish military forces, to be the most urgent issue. It should be clear to everyone that a solution is impossible and undesirable. Nor can the problem be considered as a mere question of criminality or terrorism. The solution must be poltical negotiations, a ceasefire and the full respect for human rights.

We urge the goverments of the Nordic countries to
-take joint nordic initiatives for a peaceful solution,
-file a joint cornplane to The European Human Rights Commission against Turkey for the
destruction of approximately 3.000 kurdish villages as well as other violations of human rights,
-to work for a peaceful solution and for human rights in all the countries concerned within the UN-system, OSCE as well as other international bodies,
-to take measures to stop the export of weapons and other articles used in the armed conflict.

The organisations and individuals in The Nordic Kurdish Peas Council will in the time to come carry out various initatives in order to put these issues on the political agenda.

On behalf of the meeting
