God separates from man.
... he placed in front of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming
sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

The reason why especially the tree of life had to be protected is a "over course". But this I may unveil, that if Adam or Eva (or both) had eaten some fruit of the tree of life nobody could have been saved after that event, ever!
Why had God have to guard the heavenly kingdom from the earthly? The earthly life would come to decay into destruction, perversity, etcetera, due to the fact that Lucifer had gained ascendancy over the earth. The heavenly had therefore to be guarded from to become influenced by the events on the earth.
Adam and Eva produce offspring and man's number start to multiply. But
already their first child, Kain, assassinates his first brother Abel!
