Many players think it's smart to place bunkers a bit outside their base so that the bunker can kill the enemies before they reach your base....but that sucks...you should place at least the first bunker inside your base and then put some building in front of it so that the enemy first has to kill the other building before he can reach your bunker. This gives your marines much more time to kill the enemy. Also try to make sure that the bunker can defend your SCVs.
But be careful...you can never win a game by just defending yourself.
