BREED STANDARD OF THE GSD

Original breed name: "Deutscher Schäferhund"

Original country: Germany

First standard set: 20th of Sept. 1899 (by Mayer & Stephanitz)

General Impression: The Gsd is a medium sized dog, with a slightly longer body than its height. The Gsd has a very muscular body with a stong bonestructure.

Sizes: The height of the male (measured from the heighest point of the shoulder) is 60-65 cm, and for the bitch it should be 55-60 cm. The Length of the body should be 10-17 % longer of the height.

Weight: Male about 30-40 kg, Bitches about 22-32 kg.

Character: A Gsd should have an even temper with good nerves. Be self-confident and entierly good humoured.

Colour: Black saddle with red-brown, brown, yellow or lightgrey markings. Or completly black or grey with darker shiftings. White Gsd are not allowed.
