The idea is to build a skeleton. of a boat
4-5 m long with oars that swing with the power of the water. The boat is
held 2 meters above the level of the river Fyris in the centre of Uppsala.
The water moves the oars in a constant rowing motion.
The boat refers to Noes Arc. It is tainted with
disaster, but also renewal.
I choose the river Fyris as the location for the
work. The constant flow of the river as a potential carrier of ideas, memories
and history.
With the title "Against the Current "
I stress the constant tenacious effort to reach somewhere. It illustrates
an arduous labour. It becomes a symbol for struggle, anchored and unfulfilled.
A kind of graceful martyrdom.
