MUD
is a role-play, played over Internet. Your task is to explore the world without getting
yourself killed. Either you do it alone or in groups along with other Internet users.
Role-play? Yes, you start with a character on the bottom line. You don't know anything,
you don't have any skills, nor weapon or clothes. You are a newbie! Find shelter before
dust, and food before you hunger to death.
"The bells of Garathorn informs you of the coming hour."
Lucky you, there are plenty of gods and shrines, Barons and Lords who knows about the hard
rules.
-"Welcome, Join my group newbie." says the mighty Lord.
|
MUD
is short for Multi User Dungeon and mostly based on Tolkien.
Newbie = New being, don't have a clue.
|
|
| |
When
you joined a group the game is pretty much like a chat. You use various commands to talk
inside the group, a single player or you can gossip to the hole world. There are a lot of
social commands to help you express your feelings.
|
Social-commands
are aliases for a message others will read on their screens. Example: sad
"Kaa is feeling sad and lonely and needs someone to comfort him."
Comfort, embrace, hug, kiss, jump, beat, nussle, burp, etc
etc.

| |
-"Ready?"
asks the mighty Lord.
One person is leading the group, and when he moves the others just will follow him. You
move in maximum six directions, and you see the rooms described in text. You can look
around to see what you're up against, by looking East, West and so on.
|
North,
South, West, East, up and down. These are the directions you can move in.

-"Look!"
I say. A glowing sword is lying on the ground. I ask the mighty Lord for permission,
I pick it up and wields it.
-"ahhh" The sword has proven my stats and lowered my AC by -3.
The mighty Lord looks at me, smiling, and we continue through the rough forest.
-"Listen up fellows, were about to enter the dark cave where the Red Dragon
rules." the mighty Lord says.
-"Be ready to assist me, when I try to cast an spell of death on him!"
The battle begins but I'm to young to engage, so I'm just standing behind the Lord to
avoid the dragons fire. It is the Lord who's taking all the damage, because he is leading
the group. When the dragon is dead I receive 2000 experience points and 178 golden coins.

There
are different stats on all objects in the MUD even on us. By picking up objects and wear,
wield, eat or hold them I can alter some stats. Some to be better and other to be worse.
Some stats on me:
Strenght - what I can carry.
Hit rate - my precision.
Dam rate - the damage I'll do.
Wis - my knowledge.
Int - how smart I am.
Mana - power for spell casting.
Movement - how far I can go.
Health - how much life I got left.
Well, money is important in the MUD world.
There is a lot of stores in the main city where you can buy food etc, they even got an
auction where you can by and sell items.

| |
There
are several races you can choose when you're creating your character for the first
time. Then after level 10 you can specialize into a sub area for that race.
If you start as an warrior you can then become an Knight or
Berzerk if you like.
|
Since
the game is only text you can connect with Telnet but if you attend to play more you
better get your self an MUD client. zMUD is a good client with mapping functions, triggers
and much more.

For
now I don't know what more to say, it's better if you try it out for your self.
|
Warning!!
The game is incredibly fun, and you probably going to get stuck in it...
