Genealogy - tracing your origin
(If you are eager, go directly to Genealogy
Tuition Page )
Genealogy is the study of family ties. My interest
in family
history began several years back, when I found
some letters,
written early in this century to my grandfather's
sister.The
sender was someone in the USA. It turned out
that the
brother of my great grandfather emigrated with
his family
from Sweden to the States around the year 1910.
It turned out that these people remained
in the US. They eventually
moved to California, most likely in the 1940's.
All traces end in 1969,
when their son died at a San Francisco hospital.
This is the last piece
of information we have of their whereabouts.
My primary interest today
is to find out if I have any living relatives
in America.
In case you have ever heard these names,
please contact me by
-
Johan Alfred Hallbeck, aka John Albert Hallbeck,
born 1884
-
Elin Kristina Hallbeck, AH's wife, her maiden
name was Sjögren
-
Donald Harry Hallbeck, 1914-1969
Alfred and Elin lived for years in North
Platte, NE.
Donald received a heart transplant at Palo Alto
VA Hospital in June of 1969, and died a few weeks after as a result of
a rejection reaction. In those days, a heart transplant was a very unusual
operation. His fiancee at the time was one Shawnee Pavlik, of Palo Alto,
CA.
In addition to these findings, I have traced
my ancestry
back to the 1780's in Sweden. The church
records are
excellent for the most part, but did they
ever have sirly
handwriting in those days! It turns out my
surname was
born out of a misspelling, and it should
have been Hagelbeck
rather than Hallbeck. Alas, I do not intend
to correct
150-year old mistakes - I like my name thanks
;-)
I will put out more information here as soon
as I can collect it.
