Gu qin came into being in December 1996 when Fredrik Magnusson and Rickard Lautrup left their former band Tragic Comedy to start a journey of their own. It was time to evolve, to find new influences and ways of expression.Since then the band has spent hour after hour in the studio experimenting, having lots of fun and trying to find an identity of their own. On the road some samples have found its way on to different CD-compilations.

Together with Torny Gottberg from Project-X the band composed, recorded and produced the song "Joyous" in only nine (!) hours. This song, published under the strange but self-explanatory name 9.0.H, is a straightforward hard-hitting techno tune. It appears on the Powerspot compilation Monument/3 released by Powerspot/Memento Materia.

The first song to be released by Gu qin itself was Cancer which appeared on SaunaCD002, a cover mounted compilation CD released together with the Swedish electro fanzine Sauna. Here Gu qin is still looking for a style and identity of their own! A rather fast song with a very well-known drumloop and a refrain that really sticks to your mind.

Gu qin released their first demo in late 1998. This was sent to labels mainly in Sweden and got some positive responses, though no contract was offered. Still the demo was chosen as December Months Best Demo in Swedens biggest music magazine MM. The song Outlines also appeared at the nationl radio show P3 Demo where the very best of Swedens upcoming (and still unsigned) bands are played.

Gu qin are at the moment building a new studio at Fredriks home to be able to work even harder with future projects. A new demo will be completed in mid 1999 and after reworking old and making some new material Gu qin hopefully will enter the stage playing live again.

To be continued...
