House of Family Karamata House is composed of three parts ,ground-floor,one-storeyed with simple roof and one-storeyed with cellar and roof.All three parts are linked with unique bordered facade and they have one main entrance.The highest part of house was built in 1763 by rich Zemuns merchant Kuzman Jovanovic. Building was bought in 1772 by Dimitrije Karamata, immigrant from Katranica in Macedonia for 4000 forints.Since then till nowdays the building is in property of Karamata family.On plans of zemun from the end of XVIII century building had same Floor-plan as nowdays.At the end of century, in 1795 house was priced on 8000 forints what tells it was at that time one of the largest houses in Zemun because in that time the best houses worthed some 6000 forints.Jovan Karamata, son of Dimitrije, outhoused , in 1827, floor on middle part of house and according to the money he spent it seems he restored house complitely. From that time is unique facade and gate with year 1827 above.Earlier baroc gate was on eastern part of building.House of Karamata family was linked with historical persons. During Austria-Turkish war in 1788 emperor Josif II with his headquarters stayed in it. War Council was held there with feldmarsali Laci and Laudon beside the emperor. Then,on the ceiling of the first floor was placed on the, curved in wood and coloured, big twoheaded eagle,probably act of some austrian piltaora . In 1848 in the building stayed serbian patriarch Josif Rajacic and Vuk St. Karadzic also stayed in it. Constrctors of the building arent known and there arent any original plans. |
