Arrival of Celts and Gals and their final settling (III century b.c.)in this areas opened new chapter in the history of many settlements.One of the most important armed settlements of celts was Taurunum(Zemun). They brought better agricultural tools and war equipment, wide usage of iron pole in crafts, appliance of pulley in pottery and mintage of money. In time of tsar Avgust’s rule Romans overmasered Celts in Srem in 15.A.D. Around 10.A.D. roman province Panonia was founded and Danube became north border of Roman Empire, which was secured by Taurunum.Raid of Huns broke the defence on Danubian border in 441 so the whole Zemun came under their rule.In the time of great removal of nations namely from the arrival of Huns to the settling of Slovens in this areas and final wreck of Avarian state (in 799) Taurunum shared the destiny of Panonia. After wreck of Hun’s Tribe state It was exposed to invasions of eastern Gots,Heruls,Gepids,Slovens and Avars. |
