Theater’s traditions in Zemun begun in antic age.There still wasn’t found any antic theater in Zemun or in its province and we don’t know for any Theater’s games in this areas.History of theater in Zemun hasen’t been thoroughly explored.One of the first theater’s mentions from Zemun came from the time of defence from Turks in 1456.Christian army protected Belgrade and one person was officialy first recorded “manager for theater” Johan Celer from Vienna who drowned during the crossing over Danube.He had been showing, as master of theater, with his students, “The last supper” and “Resurectioc of Christ” for what he get warning.We still don’t know which were the first theater groups that had been showing performance.First records about theater groups in Zemun was recorded by F.B.Taube (in 1776), writer of travels and high emperor’s official.He claimed that in commander’s house was built stage where shows were performed by german theater groups. In famous theater’s calendar from Gota which brings references for 1788 was recorded that Divald’s theater had been playing in that same year in Temishvar, in building of Serbian Magistrat and that Resli’s theater had been playing in Veliki Varadin, consisted of members who split, under Resli’s widow, from Divald in Pancevo and Zemun.That was the first authentical proof that some theater group stayed in Zemun.It was one of towns recorded in theater’s topographic maps of Empire as it was rich city with many restaurants, taverns and arenas with curious audience.They had been visiting Zemun in period of 1717-1918 many times playing almost everything that was played by the most sucesful and the bigest theaters in Empire and Europe. System of traveling theaters was strictly censored by the emperors officials in function of germanisation and denationalisation of non-german inhabitants.It looks paradoxical but infact very logical why non-german nations resisted from this sort of germanisation by establishing their own theater’s groups which had been raising pride and developing authentical national culture with defending from germanisation. Zemun gave wide pleiad of talented actors, theater writers,translators,manageers,directors,musicians and other artists whose procreation was narrow linked with theater. Today, Zemun people’s theater is given for usage to italian chamber opera called “Medlianum”.Also in Zemun existed puppet-play theater called “Pinokio”. |
