Novell NetWare: Commands

NetWare Paths
An example of a full Novell NetWare path is
SERVER/VOLUME:/DIR/SUBDIR1/SUBDIR2...
The paths can be written in many ways (very user friendly!) such as:
SERVER_VOLUME:\DIR\SUBDIR1\SUBDIR2...
Of course, normally you can obmit a lot of things. Usually you do not have to specify server.
As in normal DOS, . means the current directory, and .. means the directory above.

NetWare Rights
There are some Rights flags assigned to each user (or group) to enable access to directory.
RRead (see that the directory exists)R
FList Files)F
CCreate directoresC
WWrite filesW
MModify filesM
EErase files/directoriesE
AAccount. You can give away flags to other people.A
SSupervise. You can use a few more commands,
and you can grant youself any other flag.
S

NETADMIN aka SYSCON
This is the main utility.
This is also supposed to be used by Admin to supervise and look for changes made by hackers and/or change account status.
NETADMIN reads the entire userbase files several times, making it painfully slow.
NETADMIN is certainly the main reason why most School Networks are so badly supervised, it's so simple that idiots can use it (and make a lot of mistakes) and it's so slow that admins don't feel like look around in the system...
NETUSER
Boring software with few possiblities, but it is the fastest utility that can edit the login script.
(Note: Scripts can be aborted by either ATTACH or LOGIN /NS)

NLIST
Nice utility, can list a lot of things, such as: "Server", "Printer Queue", "User"
Why not NLIST "User" >> A:LOGINS.TXT so that you can look it through at home?

NDIR
Very much like DIR, but it display file owner also.

FLAG
Very much an extended version of NDIR which shows some extra flags also.

MAP
Utility for accessing NetWare paths from DOS
MAP PATHAssign a NetWare path to the current drive
MAP n PATH(NEXT)Assign a NetWare path to next available drive
MAP D:=PATHAssing a NetWare path to drive D:
MAP r D:=PATH(ROOT)Assing a NetWare path to D:\
MAP .Remove the ROOT option from the current directory
MAP DEL D:Remove the mapped drive D:

RIGHTS aka GRANT
Utility for changing user rights assigned to NetWare Path.
RIGHTS PATH will show you your rights in a directory.
RIGHTS PATH /T /S will show others rights in a directory, and in Subdirectories.
RIGHTS PATH FLAGS /name= will assign an account rights to a directory.
RIGHTS PATH FLAGS /group=will assign an account group rights to a directory.
RIGHTS PATH rem /name= will remove rights to a directory for an account.
RIGHTS PATH rem /group= will remove rights to a directory for an account group.

FILER
Stands for FileRights I suppose.
This is Rights with a (slower) menu system, a good choice for the Nintendo generation...

SLIST
Lists NetWare Servers.

PCONSOLE
The printer console. Various information about printers.
A standard user can cancel his own printings.
A printer operator can cancel all printings, and empty the printer queue.
