En av de idélla föreningar som jag är engagerade i heter OMVIE, dvs Operation Mission For The Visually Impaired in Ethiopia.

Ethiopia receives aid from developed countries. The role of Ethiopians to alleviate the current needs has however been very limited so far. Almost all help organisations are run by foreigners.
We believe that Ethiopians, together with their foreign fellow donors, should be actively involved in helping the needy people in the country.
Due to very limited resources, we are obliged to restrict our ministry to the most forgotten group of the society, the visually impaired. OMVIE was therefore established by some Ethiopian and Swedish benevolent to meet the problems of these needy people.

"Independence through minimum aid".OMVIE has even the vision to expand its ministry to other sections of the society as well in due time.

OMVIE was founded in 1993 in Gothenburg, Sweden to help needy visually handicapped people in Ethiopia. OMVIE’s support may be canalised directly or through other organizations in Ethiopia. OMVIE has at the moment good ties with Bartimaeus Christian Association (BCA), also founded in 1993. OMIVE supports BCA financially to run its own office in Addis, so as to meet its administrational needs.
OMVIE is a non-profit and an interdenominational Christian organization.
To enable the members to be active and self-reliant, by creating opportunities that would help them to participate in income-generating activities.
To continue helping BCA with financial and moral support to achieve its goals.
To enable the members getting bibles and other reading materials in Braille and/or on tape.
To help BCA arrange meetings and conferences of interest.
OMVIE's current plans include the following:
- To build a workshop for the blind.
This project is going to enable the participants to be economically independent citizens. This can be best achieved with a sufficient professionally skilled staff.
- To build a library for the blind.
The library is thought to primarily meet the demands upon shortage of literature in Braille or talking book.
