HOW THEY MET         wpe6.jpg (21260 bytes)

Year 1992 Kevin Richardson had just finished school in his hometown Lexington,Kentucky. His family was a very musical family and Kevin had been working with music for a couple of years. He was with in a band that sang covers, that is, other versions of popular songs. The cover band had had quite a good success but Kevin wanted more out of his life.

Kevin flew over to Orlando, Florida to test his luck. To be able to make a living he found a job at Disney World as a tourist guide. He spent his free time trying to sing and write as much as he could.

One day he heard people talking about a couple of guys who were good at singing and dancing. These guys were called Nick Carter, Howard Dorough and Alexander James McLean and had met each other on different auditions. Kevin took contact with them and was impressed at how good they were. Kevin liked the guys and wanted to start a pop group with them and the others agreed. But the four singers thought they needed another singer to make the vocals sound better. Kevin suddenly thought of his cousin Brian Littrel who sang in a choir and the two had often performed on family evenings and in front of public in Lexington.Kevin phoned Brian and had him called out from his lesson.

Soon a rumor started spreading about five guys who sang good a capella, that is without any instruments.

Now the only problem was the name. What were they going to be called? One day when the boys were at the Backstreet Market in Orlando it struck them that Backstreet was a very good name so BACKSTREET BOYS was the name.

The boys soon got their first record contract, their first album come out and the songs started to climb the top lists.

The rest of their History is: PROGRESS. As more and more people discovered them they become more and more successful.
